One week left to register to vote for the 2024 General Election

Voter registration deadline is Oct. 11 by 5 p.m.

The Wake County Board of Elections is reminding residents that the voter registration deadline for the 2024 General Election is Friday, Oct. 11. New registrations and updates can be accepted until 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to make their voice heard this November should check online to make sure their registration is up to date.

“Take a moment this week to check your registration and make sure you’re ready for the upcoming election,” said Wake County Board of Elections Director Olivia McCall. “If you’re not registered or need to update your address, there are multiple quick and easy ways to submit a voter registration form.”

Eligible voters can visit the Wake County Board of Elections website to find a voter registration form to print and complete. Forms are also available at the Board of Elections Operations Center and at Wake County public libraries upon request. The N.C. Department of Transportation provides an online portal to register or update voter information through the myNCDMV website.

Completed voter registration forms can be delivered to the Wake County Board of Elections:

  • In person by 5 p.m. on Oct. 11;
  • Via mail to P.O. Box 695, Raleigh, N.C. 27602 (postmarked by Oct. 11);
  • Via email to voter@wake.gov by 5 p.m. on Oct. 11;
  • Via fax to 919-231-5737 by 5 p.m. on Oct.11;
  • Online through the myNCDMV website by Oct. 11; or
  • In person through any Wake County library by 5 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Voters must be at least 18 years of age by Nov. 5, not currently serving a felony sentence, including any period of probation, post-release supervision, or parole, and must be citizens of the United States to register. The voter registration form requires an identification number – your N.C. driver’s license number/NCDMV ID number, or if you do not have one, the last four digits of your Social Security Number. If you do not have one of those forms of identification, you must check the box confirming you do not have one.

Voter registration is maintained at the county level, and voters must re-register when moving into a new county. Registered voters may choose to cast their ballot by mail, in person at an early voting site, or in person on Election Day.
