Wake County is a Neuse designated community for compliance with 15A NCAC 02B .0711 NEUSE NUTRIENT STRATEGY: STORMWATER. This rule requires the County to implement a public education program to inform citizens how to reduce nutrient pollution and to inform developers about the nutrient requirements
Stormwater runoff is the water that flows off impervious surfaces or is not fully absorbed by natural surfaces during rain events. This water drains into catch basins, storm sewers and ditches, eventually ending up in lakes and rivers. Stormwater runoff can cause flooding and erosion. Stormwater runoff can pick up harmful chemicals and debris causing polluted bodies of water and destroying natural habitats.
While Wake County does not own or operate a public-owned storm water system, there are public and private owned stormwater control measures throughout the County. For all questions and concerns regarding the storm water program, please contact Wake County at 919-856-7400.
Wake Soil and Water Conservation District is committed to advancing the environmental literacy of Wake County citizens through its environmental education, grant and volunteer programs for Wake County citizens (students and adults). For volunteer opportunities including Big Sweep, please contact Wake Soil & Water at 919-250-1050.
