Volunteer Information

Sandy Pines Preserve couldn’t operate without the gracious assistance of many members of the public and organizations that volunteer.  Learn more about volunteer opportunities below.

Frequent Collaborators

Are you looking to join a service group that regularly participates in large-scale improvement projects around the Triangle Area? We are proud to partner with several organizations that incorporate our preserves into their service projects. Reach out to any of the below organizations to join their ranks and see us on one of their community service days.

Groups

Groups who volunteer in our preserves include school groups, environmental clubs and organizations, Scout groups, special interest groups, and families. Many choose to take part in  public volunteer events. Other groups arrange to come out on their own day and participate in any of several improvement initiatives around the preserves including:

  • Invasive plant species removal
  • Trail maintenance and litter removal
  • Wildlife monitoring
  • Landscaping and planting

Individuals

Individuals who volunteer in our preserves often include enthusiasts of Wake County's natural resources, high school and college students, and Scouts. Opportunities include taking part in any of our public volunteer efforts including:

  • Invasive plant species removal
  • Trail maintenance and litter removal
  • Wildlife monitoring
  • Landscaping and planting

Scouts

Over the years, many Scouts have chosen to complete exciting projects around Wake County Nature Preserves. Occasionally, our park staff have specific projects in mind that would satisfy the requirements, but Scouts are encouraged to submit their own ideas.

To inquire about projects, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Ashley Gagnon at ashley.gagnon@wake.gov.

Volunteer Service Agreement and Release Form

All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Release Form. All minors must bring a completed form signed by a parent or legal guardian, and all participants are encouraged to email or bring their completed forms with them to their first volunteer session.

Please note that volunteer projects are dependent on availability and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To discuss volunteer opportunities or be notified of upcoming events, contact Volunteer Coordinator Ashley Gagnon at ashley.gagnon@wake.gov.
