Persons, firms or corporations engaging in well contractor activities involving wells for irrigation, private or semi-public domestic use in Wake County must:

Register with Wake County Environmental Services;

Post a continuing and automatically renewing original Performance Bond in the sum of $10,000 with Wake County Environmental Services as beneficiary; and

Be certified by the North Carolina Well Contractor Certification Commission and operate in accordance with the rules of the WCCC.
Construction of geothermal heat-exchange injection wells
In addition to the requirements above, drillers who engage in the construction of geothermal heat-exchange injection wells must also be certified by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association.
Pump Installers
All persons, firms or corporations in the business of installing, replacing or repairing pumps or other equipment in Wake County must register with Wake County Environmental Services.
