Special Assistance helps pay the cost of living in an adult care home, family care home, rest home or assisted living facility.
The Special Assistance beneficiary's income is used to help pay for the cost of care. The individual may keep $66 per month of their income for personal needs and the rest goes to the facility.
You must apply for Special Assistance during the month you want assistance, as payments are not made retroactively.
The Special Assistance In-Home (SA/IH) Program provides a cash supplement to low-income individuals who are at risk of entering a residential facility. SA/IH provides additional support services and income to individuals who would prefer to live at home.
