Wake County Wellness Programs

The Health Promotion Section of Wake County Public Health aims to create healthy communities through a variety of health, nutrition and exercise programs that work together to improve the quality of life for all Wake County residents. These programs are offered at no cost and most can be tailored for all fitness levels.

Working Out for Wellness, July 9–Aug. 20

This free morning workout program runs for seven weeks in partnership with Knightdale Parks and Recreation. The 60-minute program will include strength training using exercise bands, cardio (i.e., walking) and a cool-down stretch.

Participants are encouraged to bring water, an exercise mat and exercise bands. Bands will be provided to those who do not have them.

Couch to 5k, July 10–Aug. 14

Lace up those sneakers and join us for a six-week beginners’ running clinic! The free program is presented in partnership with the City of Raleigh’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Couch to 5K is open to community members, Wake County employees, and their family members (10 years of age and older). Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian.

In-person training sessions will take place every week. Each participant will receive a weekly training calendar to help prepare them for the next week’s session. On the last day, we will run a 5k!

There are three ways to register:

  • Through the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation registration portal:  RecLink (search word 5k)
  • In person at a City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation location, or
  • Show up 20 minutes early on the first day for on-site registration

Movin’ and Groovin’, Aug. 15 - Oct. 3

Wake County’s Health Promotion Section invites you to join a community physical activity program that will help you get active and stay active!

The group meets Thursday evenings in Raleigh with a new class starting in August. It’s open to everyone over the age of 12. There's water, snacks and door prizes each week for participants.
