Project Summary
The Garner Main EMS Station is Wake County’s new regional EMS prototype station that serves as a hub for regional EMS stations located in the greater Garner area as well as providing a way to improve EMS response times to the target area along the Timber Drive corridor. The facility includes training space, offices, a dayroom, a kitchen, three full vehicle bays for up to six response units, an exercise area, a decontamination and support space, and vehicle fleet supplies and covered parking. Sustainability features anticipated include native, drought-tolerant plant materials, cool concrete pavement, storm water BMP, solar PV, energy efficient systems, and EV charging stations.
The Wake County Board of Commissioners approved an MOU with the Wake County Public School System in May 2020 to consider developing a portion of the Timber Drive Elementary School campus for a regional EMS station. In September 2021, the Wake County Board of Commissioners approved the schematic design for the EMS Garner Main Station. In October 2021, the Wake County Board of Commissioners and the Wake County Board of Education agreed to enter into a 50-year ground lease for approximately 4 acres for the development of the project.
Construction began in the fall of 2022 and the station was ready to service the community in winter of 2023.
