The role of the Wake County Institute for Out-of-Hospital Medicine is to prepare current EMTs, through classroom instruction, practical lab sessions, clinical experiences and a field internship experience, so that they're eligible for National Registry and North Carolina Paramedic certification exams. Number of hours required for program completion: 1,340.

Applicants must be current, active field providers working for one of the three EMS agencies in the Wake County EMS System.

Program Goal

To prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains, with or without exit points, at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Responder Levels.

The mission of the Wake County Institute for Out-of-Hospital Medicine is to educate competent entry-level providers of out-of-hospital medical care in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains in order to deliver prompt, compassionate, clinically excellent care.
