What Is The Cadet Program?
Launched in 2020, the Wake EMS Cadet program prepares high school-aged students for a career in EMS. The program gives students a closeup look at EMS training and emergency response through regular formalized instruction and EMS ride-along shifts. The program runs the calendar year from January to December, with registration opening in the fall before the program starts.
Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is closed.
When Do Cadets Meet?
Cadets meet weekly from 6:30–8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Emergency Services Education Center, located at 221 S. Rogers Lane, Raleigh, and participate in self-scheduled field ride-along shifts.
What Do Cadets Learn?
Evening meetings provide progressive instruction on EMT-related material. Participation in the program will not make the cadet eligible for State of North Carolina EMT certification but does give them a significant head start when taking an EMT certification course. Cadets can expect two to three hours of study per week outside regular meetings. Students must maintain a passing grade on all written and skills tests.
