On Thursday, September 5, the Animal Center will be closed to the public for the day. This includes no walk-ins and no adoptions due to reduced staffing as our managers, supervisors and veterinarians will be attending our annual training.
However, the call center will remain open, and Animal Control will continue to handle routine calls. The rest of the staff will follow their regular schedules.

FIVE FREEDOMS – Based on the Brambell Report in 1965, these principles are relevant to the welfare of any animal species. The Wake County Animal Center focuses on meeting these Five Freedoms for animals in our care:
- Freedom from Hunger and Thirst by ready access to fresh water and diet to maintain health and vigor
- Freedom from Discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area
- Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment
- Freedom to Express Normal Behavior by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind
- Freedom from Fear and Distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering

The Wake County Animal Center is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue. From New Bern Avenue, turn south onto Corporation Parkway. Turn right at the stop sign onto Commerce Park Drive and then left onto Beacon Lake Drive. The main entrance and parking lot are on the left. Look for the large blue Wake County Animal Care, Control, and Adoption Center sign.
